Just How Healthy is St. Clair County?
Written by Dr. Rita Boyd

Our vision for St. Clair County is to be the healthiest county in America by 2020. According to experts from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, we have a long uphill climb. On February 17, 2010 a report ranking the health of all U.S. counties was released.  In this report, counties are ranked within their state according to two summary measures.

Marching Towards Health
Written by Dr. Jeremy M. Book

March marks the beginning of spring and is the time of new life. The days are getting warmer, and if you have been neglecting your health it is a great time to get re-focused.

Are you Marching toward health or are you Marching away from health? Our level of health is a continuum that we are always moving on. It is never static. The things we do everyday move us toward health or move us toward sickness.

2009 Health Policy Summit
Written by Mark Peters

St. Clair County's 9th Annual Health Partnership Conference featured keynote speaker, Mark Fenton, host of the PBS series, America's Walking, and over 150 local community leaders to join a county-wide effort to develop ‘built environments’ and policy changes that facilitate active living and healthy eating.

The event was co-convened by members of the County Health Care Commission, the Get Up & Go! Campaign and the Willard C. Scrivner, MD, Public Health Foundation. Facilitation and funding was made available through the St. Clair County Pioneering Healthier Communities initiative sponsored by the CDC and the Y-USA.  For a full page printable version of this article, click the attachment below.

Help Us Renovate Our 'Virtual Community'
Written by Mark Peters

Each year, the month of April has become the official start of the Get Up & Go! Health and Wellness Campaign.  As the Campaign begins its 3rd year, we want to invite you to be part of this journey once again.  Explore the new look that we are building into these pages for ways to become more proactive about your health and the health of your community.  Tell us what you think.  We're starting out small but we plan to add to this site with many of your suggestions in mind. Take our quick poll to help us along or contact us with any questions you may have.  Check out the community calendar to see what health and wellness activities are going on in and around St. Clair County.  Help us to add more.  Use our Login section to create a registered user account and you’ll discover even more ways to join with other groups, organizations and communities who are working together for health.

Thanks To All Our Volunteers!
Written by Mark Peters

The Get Up & Go Board of Directors and Advisory Team members are volunteers made up of a variety of professions and different 'walks of life.'  The one thing we share in common is a commitment to the health of the communities in which we live, learn, work, and play.

In addition to their constant commitment, we want to thank the many other volunteers and organizations that have helped this campaign to grow since our collaborative journey began in the Autumn of 2007. For a full list of these organizations and volunteers, see "Partnerships" option on the top menu.

Your dedication has made all the difference in giving the 262,000 residents of St. Clair County more opportunities to lead healthy and active lives.
