Summer 2010 - Youth 4 Youth
A Get Up & Go! Health and Wellness Challenge Developed by Youth for Youth
What is the 'Youth 4 Youth' Challenge?
Youth 4 Youth is a team-based health and wellness challenge for adolescents (ages 10-18). It was developed by a Group of Area High School Youth working with the St. Clair County Get Up & Go! Health and Wellness Campaign. It's filled with everyday fun activities that groups can participate in together. Each activity is intended to do one or more of the following:
-
Build a sense of team spirit,
-
Provide service to the community; and/or,
-
Equip youth with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently and safely meet the challenges of adolescence.
The Challenge starts June 1st and last through September 30th. Participating Teams can win prizes and they'll be recognized and honored as part of the County-wide Get Up & Go! Oktoberfest Celebration at McKendree University on October 16th! Our Special Guest will feature Sandra Magnus, Belleville Native and NASA Astronaut.
Groups can begin to register for the challenge after May 24th. A downloadable copy of the Youth 4 Youth Information and Registration Form to be completed by an adult representative will be available through the Youth 4 Youth Challenge Menu. Groups may register at any time during the challenge period, but the earlier a group signs up, the more points they will be able to accumulate.
Beginning June 1st, registered groups can choose from a variety of healthy challenges or activities from our list of activities. The group representative will validate that the activity was completed and points will then be awarded to the group.
Every activity earns points and our Youth 4 Youth section of the website will keep track of your group’s score. Beginning June 1st, weekly activities will be posted and a sneak preview of other types of activities will be available for interested groups.
The teams with the highest accumulation of points at the end of September will win prizes. Campaign prizes will also be available for every participating member of the Youth 4 Youth Challenge at the October 16th Get Up & Go Celebration event.
Who is eligible to participate?
Any group of youth ages 10-18 years of age. We do ask that the groups be affiliated with an organization and that an adult representative be responsible for confirming that the activities are completed.
How does it work?
Each registered group will be able to select from a variety of activities in multiple areas ranging from team building to community service to learning something new. It's called a "Youth Challenge," not a "Youth Survivor Series." Our volunteer youth from Belleville East, Belleville West, Althoff, Berean Academy and Freeburg wanted to make this more fun than frightening so none of the activities will be too difficult. Chances are, you'll be doing many of these things over the summer anyway. Why not 'rack-up' points for your team and challenge yourself and others to push the limits of TEEN-TEAM POTENTIAL!
If you see an activity that your group wants to try...get involved and make it happen. Each week (or so), your group sponsor will report your progress to us online and teams can compare themselves with other teams. Every activity earns points and even bonus points can be added for certain activities. Each week, new activities will emerge or you can repeat some of your favorite ones from previous weeks. The teams with the highest accumulation of points at the end of September will win prizes.
